Euronet names new CFO

Euronet Worldwide Inc. named Rick Weller as executive vice president and CFO, the company announced Monday.
Weller replaces Kendall Coyne, who was named as controller, Leawood-based Euronet (Nasdaq: EEFT) said in a written statement.
Weller has more than 20 years of business and financial management experience. Most recently, he was COO for ionex telecommunications inc., a competitive local-exchange carrier based in Addison, Texas. Earlier, he was CFO for Intek Information Inc., an information technology service provider; vice president of finance for Sprint Communications Inc.'s Consumer Services Long Distance Group; assistant vice president of finance for Sprint's Business Services Long Distance Group; and assistant vice president for Sprint's Corporate-Wide Internal Audit Group.
Before joining Overland Park-based Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS), Weller was senior manager in the Financial Service Industry Practice of Price Waterhouse.
On July 29, Euronet reported a second-quarter loss of $4.7 million, or 21 cents a share, compared with earnings of $7.6 million, or 37 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue for the second quarter, which ended June 30, was $17.5 million, up 16 percent from $15.1 million a year ago.
For the second quarter, the company posted operating profit of $953,000. On Sept. 18, the company announced that it expects third-quarter operating results to range from a loss of $500,000 to earnings of $100,000.
Euronet provides systems for secure electronic financial transactions. As of June 30, the company owned or operated 2,840 ATMs in Hungary, Poland, Germany, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Greece and Egypt. Its European headquarters are in Budapest, Hungary.
